Many artists know Charles ThomasChuckClose (born July 5, 1940) as an American painter who achieved fame as a photorealist, through his massive-scale abstract portraits.

Most wet plate photographers recognize his work of extreme close-up portraiture using the wet plate collodion process. One of his larger-than-life portraits hangs in the SF MOMA collection.
